The last weekend the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy in Sokolniki has launched a new season of adult courses. On top of traditional and popular curriculum, including Basic and Pointed Pen Calligraphy, Spencerian has been introduced to offer a particularly sophisticated and airy decorative writing training. Guided by professional calligrapher Daria Shelomkova, students learn the tools and materials employed by the script.
The National Calligraphy School based in the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy is excited to announce the expansion of training programmes as of October. Alongside with traditional Basic, Pointed Pen and Lettering courses the following new ones will be introduced: Introduction to Oriental Calligraphy, Chinese and Japanese Characters; Brushpen and Spencerian (levels 1 and 2).
On Sunday, September 24, the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy held the Doors Open Day to present training courses for all ages by the National Calligraphy School. The guests were introduced to the updated permanent exhibition, which featured some masterpieces created for the recent 6th International Exhibition of Calligraphy, as well as to the traditional pearls of the museum collection.
Tuesday, July 11th, the final class of the Pointed Pen calligraphy course was held in the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, also being the final calligraphy class in the 2016-2017 season. As per tradition, Atrem Lebedev handed out personal certificates and wished them to pursue their calligraphy practice.
The warm summer day of June 10 has seen the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy welcoming enthusiasts of one of the most beautiful Slavonic writing scripts, which is Vyaz. There is growing interest to Slavonic writing lately, and many contemporary calligraphy artists create to redefine our writing legacy.
April 22nd, a crash course on celebrating lettering was held in the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy. The crash course format allows students to get to know within short timeframes both the theory and practice of a calligraphy skill: in case of lettering, they learned about various kinds of scripts, numerous instruments applied in lettering, the rules of letter arrangement.
Last Sunday, April 2, the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy held an intensive workshop dubbed “Calligraphy for Children. Broad Pen”
The introductory part was designed to consult lefthander children and their parents. Teacher Ekaterina Orfanova, who is a lefthander too, has told about special movements and paper positioning, offered comfortable sitting and pen holding manners. Some practice followed: the first test of the pen was to complete simple exercises through custom workbooks developed by Ekaterina for the occasion.
