World’s Largest Golden Copy of
the Quran Gifted to Razavi Holy Shrine

The world’s largest golden copy of the Quran, which was unveiled on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Imam Reza (AS), was gifted to the museum of Astan-e Quds Razavi.

Alireza Behdani, calligrapher of the Quran copy, said that the 100×70 size manuscript weighs 80 kilograms.

The Iranian artist began calligraphy of the Holy Quran’s verses at the age of 22 and this copy of the Divine book in Naskh script has taken about one year to be completed.

The manuscript has 604 pages and the verses have been written in 15 lines per page.

The calligrapher said that 14 grams of gold have been used for illumination of each page of the copy which cost over 300 million Riyals (Iranian currency).

He said that the Supreme Leader awarded him the 300 million Riyals for his previous manuscript and he has spent the prize on creating the new work.

The artist was born in 1971 in Birjand, eastern part of Iran. He has created the largest national copy of the Holy Quran, the smallest copy of the world’s Quran in Gold and the largest calligraphic painting tableau unveiled in 2012.
