Svyato Cyrillitsi (Festival of the Cyrillic Alphabet): Festival of Script and Calligraphy

Svyato Cyrillitsi (Festival of the Cyrillic Alphabet) is a festival of script and calligraphy held on May 23-25 in Kharkov since 2006. Thus, the festival initiators (Panic Design studio and the Kharkov State Academy of Design and Arts) pay tribute to SS. Cyril and Methodius, the developers of the Cyrillic alphabet. Svyato Cyrillitsi is a script exhibition, seminars and a good opportunity to talk shop with experts in a casual atmosphere. Among the key objectives of the festival are promotion of Cyrillic calligraphy and font design, integration of the experience of the older generation and the energy of the younger. The festival aims at researching and developing Ukrainian script and writing tradition. The festival’s distinctive feature is its focus both on traditions and on modern trends.

One of the Festival organizers is Alexey Chekal, Art Director of Graphic Design Studio, teacher at the Kharkov State Academy of Design and Art, member of the 4BLOK Association of Graphic Designers. The importance of this event in the calligraphic community and its popularity are proved by the fact that it also attracts other participants of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy.
