Museum’s Birthday. The Best Moments
Today is the day we’ve all been waiting for! After so many words the holiday is finally here!
Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy introduced his distinguished guests: Andrei Busygin, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, diplomats: ambassadors of Jerusalem, Iran, Jordan, Ukraine and many others, representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Russia, cultural figures, and representatives of different confessions. Together with us the Museum’s birthday was celebrated by our colleagues: Yevgeny Bogatyryov, Director of the Pushkin State Museum, Vera Vikulova, Director of the Gogol State Museum, Tatyana Metaksa, First Deputy Director General of the Moscow Eastern Arts Museum, Antonina Demidova, Head of the Department of Culture of Rossotrudnichestvo, the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation, and Mrs. Shefer, the Art-Director of Chi-ne-Art on Yakimanka, a Chinese art gallery.
Following a good museum tradition – collecting sacred calligraphy – famous experts of sacred texts of different confessions and cultures presented their masterpieces. Thus, the work “Remember not the sins of my youth…” was officially given by father Georgy Roshchin, a representative of the Moscow Patriarchate. A Quaranic surah – a masterpiece of the Muslim calligraphy – created by Jordan calligrapher Nassar Mansour was presented by Mr. Hasan Al-Dabbas, Counsellor for Cultural Affairs of the Embassy of Jordan in the Russian Federation and Islam-Khazrat, the Imam of the Moscow’s Jami, member of the Mufti Council of Russia.
The climax of the soiree was the presentation of the world-known Jerusalem manuscript – the World Famous Mezuzah created by Avraham-Hersh Borshevsky, a famous Israeli calligrapher. This scroll is by right included into the Guinness World Records.
Aaron Gurevich, the Head Military Rabbi of Russia who presented the World Famous Mezuzah to the Russian audience said the Mezuzah is not only an art piece, but also a sacred piece for Jewish people that protects the house from every evil.
“We have not yet found the door for such a mezuzah”, - joked the Rabbi.
Another important clou of the evening was the handwritten copy of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation. The manuscript was created by Evgeny Drobyazin, a famous Russian calligrapher to be later illuminated by Barbara Calzolari, a world-known artist from Italy. This July the hand-made Russian anthem was presented to President Dmitry Medvedev by Silvio Berlusconi at the G8 summit in L’Aquila.
All the guests to the museum had a unique opportunity to watch a marvelous performance: calligraphy improvisation to music of Beethoven and Mendelssohn. The solemn ceremony was closed with a soulful violin music played by the Gelios string quartet.
