The State Literature Museum receives more handwritten books

Today the holdings of the State Literature Museum have been enriched by unique manuscripts, arriving from Aleksei Remizov’s Paris apartment. Aleksei Remizov is a famous writer, a recognized calligraphy master and an original painter, one of the most brilliant stylists of the Silver Age of Russian Poetry. Emigrated in 1921. Remizov’s collection was purchased for the museum’s holdings by the RF Ministry of Culture.

The collection comprises 133 manuscripts, consisting of around 15 000 pages and hundreds of letters. The new exhibits feature the Charter of the Great and Free Ape Lodge — a fictional secret society invented by Aleksei. The author’s drawings occupy a special position within the exposition that features quite a few remarkable collages and handwritten album-books, blending text and graphics.
