Prague admiring the works of Michel D'Anastasio

Since April 25 the biggest Jerusalem synagogue in Prague has been showing the artworks by Michel D′Anastasio, participant of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy. The opening ceremony was attended by Pierre Levy, Ambassador of France in the Czech Republic.

The project curator Michal Kucherki says, “With his unique artistic concept he (Michel D′Anastasio) surpasses the possibilities of calligraphy as an artwork beautifully written on paper, glass or canvas. Masterfully pictured Hebrew letters and texts are thoroughly arranged to the dramatically lighted environment adding to its expression almost theatrical nature; the whole composition is being photographed so the final work of art is not anymore the calligraphy by itself but the picture which interweaves the scene containing written works. Deeply meditative character of his calligraphy has obtained new and mystic dimension though: very personal and revealing.”

On May 20 Alexey Shaburov, Director of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy, visited this exhibit. Mr. Shaburov is long familiar with amazing creativity of this French calligrapher. Michelle D′Anastasio was in Moscow for the II International Exhibition of Calligraphy and, we hope, he will demonstrate his skills in September this year at our exhibition in Veliky Novgorod.

The exhibit of Michel D’Anastasio was organized thanks to the assistance of the French Institute in Prague and the financial support of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. The exhibition will run until October 3, and all residents and visitors of the Czech capital will be able to admire the colorful and unique works.
