Mirrors of memory - Tughra and Shejere at the Kazan Islamic Art Museum

The Kazan Islamic Art Museum hosts the Mirrors of memory — Tughra and Shejere Exhibition on February 11th, within the framework of the Calligraphy as a Way to Realize the Eternal Truths art project launched in 2011.

The exposition is devoted to Tughras and Shejere executed by famous figures of the Tatar literature and art of the past and present: Ğabdulla Tuqay, Urmançe Baqi Urmançe, Sara Sadíqova, Ilham Shakirov, Ildar Manaseevich Khanov and others.

Tughra, a word of the Ottoman Turkish language, means an «identification tag», a «tamga» or an «emblem». It might be a sign of a person as well as a sign of the city.

Shejere (Arabian «tree», i.e. «family tree») is one of the archaic forms of knowledge about the past.

The exhibitors:
Najip Nakkash, Vladimir Popov, Rishat Salakhutdinov, Alfiya Iskhakova, Zulfiyya Muhammetdinova, Rinat Minnibaev, Rustem Shamsutov.
