Li Zuo Calligraphy, “Characters, Inscribed in the Heavens”

Li Zuo Calligraphy, “Characters, Inscribed in the Heavens”
Characters, Inscribed in the Heavens solo calligraphy exhibition by a Chinese master Li Zuo opens its doors today at the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus.

The beauty of calligraphy lies in the harmony of precise brush strokes on paper. The ink’s reserved blackness contrasts sharply the ruby-red stamp imprints, an integral calligraphic attribute. The stamp imprints on Li Zuo’s works are executed in Xiaozhuan style (small stamps).

Li Zuo is not just a mere calligrapher – he is an artist in constant search, constantly seeking perfection. In his style you can easily trace motion, energy, evolution, vitality, and a certain breath. The master successfully combines teaching and elaborating marvelous calligraphic paintings.

Li Zuo was born in Beijing, in 1957. In 1983 he graduated from the Beijing Normal University, Russian language department. He had taught Russian at the Beijing Jiaotong University. During this period he had translated a series of works by soviet and Russian poets to Chinese. Since 2009 Li Zuo has occupied the post of a professor at the Belarusian State University, Faculty of International Relations, Department of Oriental Linguistic and Country Studies, where apart from language studies the future sinologists learn the basics of calligraphy.

Since early childhood Li Zuo has revealed thorough interest in this traditional Chinese art and has studied for many years under the guidance of a calligraphy guru. Li Zuo received 2 gold and 4 silver medals at the All-Chinese Calligraphy Contest. Minsk has seen 4 exhibitions by the master over the recent years, and in 2012 Li Zuo showcased his masterpieces at the Moscow International Exhibition of Calligraphy.

"Today I’m honoured to present my new calligraphic works at the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk. I’m really so happy because this exhibition allows one of the oldest and at the same time modern and trendy art of calligraphy to coexist with the biggest Belarusian chefs d’oeuvre. I’d like to express my deep gratitude for those who helped me and supported me!", Li Zuo, Chinese language professor at the Belarusian State University, Faculty of International Relations, Department of Oriental Linguistic and Country Studies.

The exhibition will be open until March 27, 2013.
