Andrey Mashanov’s personal exhibition opened in Vladivostok

One picture shows soaring ships in the Omsk sky. The other depicts the stern faces of the apostles, who seem to appear on crumbling frescoes. The traditions of Russian icon painting, oriental calligraphy and augmented reality are surprisingly intertwined in the work of Andrey Mashanov. Vladivostok has never seen such an exhibition before.

Today angels have settled in the halls of the Union of Artists. These are one of the most beloved heroes of Andrey Mashanov, the artist and calligrapher from Omsk, a participant in the International Exhibition of Calligraphy project, who is presenting his personal exhibition here these days.

All the works of Andrey Mashanov are his perception and rethinking of the ancient Russian traditions of icon painting and oriental calligraphy. Here is the literary hall, where the spreads of the "Book of Angels" and whole scrolls are presented, where the text of the songs of King Solomon is written. The technique is borrowed from oriental practices. And next to it is one of the most extensive series of Mashanov, the artist has been working on it for more than a dozen years. It is dedicated to ancient Russian masters. The paintings are like crumbling frescoes on which the faces of Russian icon painters appear: Theophanes the Greek, Andrei Rublev. This is an exquisite stylization of antiquity. All works are made using the technique of colored etching. Today, few people work there. The process is too complicated, painstaking and lengthy.

Andrey Mashanov, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation: "This is done on metal, which is covered with acid-resistant varnish, then scratched with a needle, then etched in nitric acid, after which paint is poured into these strokes and an imprint is made on the paper under high pressure."

Referring to ancient subjects and traditions, the great esthete and original Mashanov uses the most modern technologies in his work. And for the viewer with a smartphone fireworks and a rainbow suddenly bloom in the picture, ships are sailing in the sky and birds are flying. This is how the artist introduces the viewer of the Primorsky Region to his beloved Omsk and its central Lyubinsky Avenue.

Andrey Mashanov, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation: “This is our central street, a very old Lyubinsky Avenue. And I wanted to revive it. This is the so-called augmented reality that brings work to life, complements it. "

This exhibition has become a real event for Vladivostok. It not only introduces the work of the outstanding Russian artist and his original author's technique. It takes the viewer away from everyday life into the world of spiritual contemplation, creativity, parables and eternal wisdom.
