Biography

Lasha Kintsurashvili was born on March 13, 1968 in Tbilisi.

In 1985 he graduated from the Komarov School of Physics and Mathematics and, concurrently, from the Specialized School of Art under the Georgia Ministry of Education. In the same year he was admitted to the Department of Architecture of the Georgian Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1992.

In the late 1980s he became interested in church art and began his first experiments with calligraphy art.

In 1986-1987 he made a handwritten copy of the hagiography work The Wisdom of Balaam.

In 1989 Mr. Kintsurashvili made a handwritten copy of the Life of St. John the Apostle, a fragment of the ancient Georgian menology.

In April 1992 an Easter issue of Madli newspaper was published (an edition of Georgian Patriarchate). The issue was entirely hand-written. Lasha Kintsurashvili was the head of this project.

In 1993 he made a copy of the Acts of the Ruisi-Urbnisi All-Georgian Church Council.

In 2010 Mr. Kintsurashvili was a member of the Georgian Calligraphy Competition jury.

Lasha has been working productively in the sphere of church painting. He worked with a group of artists on decorating churches in Georgia and the Church of the Saint Holy Great Martyr George in Moscow, on Bolshaya Gruzinskaya street. His most recent work can be seen in the Church of St. John the Forerunner in Moscow and the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in Tbilisi, the construction of which ended in March 2010.

Mr. Kintsurashvili is a member of the Union of Painters and Calligraphers of Georgia.
