The Holy Quran from Qatar – unique new exhibit at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy

On Sunday, February 30, in addition to the Open Day the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy will host another significant event – presentation of a copy of unique handwritten edition of the Holy Quran. The idea of creating this masterpiece has been approved and supported by His Highness the Emir of Qatar, and agreed with the Center for Islamic Arts and Culture in Istanbul. The project to be run, the international competition on Arabic calligraphy was organized, with the participation of about 120 calligraphers from around the world. Obeid Mohamed Saleh al-Banki of Syria was elected as the winner. Also, a competition was held to choose the best artist for individual decoration and design of every page, every ayat and every part of the Quran. Dozens of experts worked on revision and detailed examination of the edition.

The Holy Quran shall be officially presented to Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, by Mr. Yaser Awad Al-Abdullah, First Secretary of the Embassy of Qatar in Russia.

It is noteworthy that Qatar will be the first country among the countries of the Arabian Peninsula, whose exhibit will be displayed at the museum.

Everybody is welcome at the Open Day and presentation of the Holy Quran next Sunday at 2.00 pm.
