Representatives of Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy visited “Best Artworks by Russian Fans of Chinese Calligraphy” exhibition

On November 8, the China Cultural Centre held a ceremonial opening for the exhibition of guo hua contest winners. Representatives of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, the deputy director Olga Shaburova and the manager Elizaveta Chay, attended the opening of the event, designed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties between China and Russia.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Russia, Mr. Zhang Hanhui opened the night and made a speech, mentioning the importance of fine arts contests and appreciating the high level of artists’ mastery and their artworks on display.

To acknowledge the support of Russian artists, Irina Plugina, a member of the Chinese gongbi painting fan club, donated one of her artworks to Mr. Zhang Nahnui on behalf of the exhibitors.

The ceremony continued with the First Deputy Chairman of the Association for Russian and Chinese Friendship Galina Kulikova, the People’s Artist and Principal of Surikov Institute Anatoly Lyubavin, and artist, and guo hua teacher Natalia Voronaya making their speeches.

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Russia initiated a contest for the Russian fans of Chinese painting, which took place in the summer of 2019. It received more than 200 submissions, out of which a high Chinese jury board selected the winners. The contest resulted in an eye-catching album demonstrating the diverse techniques and genres of guo hua, with all included artworks displayed at the exhibition too. The album was donated to every visitor of the event.
