Exhibition project "Jameel Award" in the Arena (Manege)

For the first time ever the British Victoria and Albert Museum has brought to Russia the Jameel Prize Exhibition Project, dedicated to Islamic art. Everyone has the chance to see works by ten young artists and designers from Azerbaijan, India, Lebanon, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and France at the New Manege Moscow State Exhibition Hall until November 23rd. The exhibition has already been presented in Kazan, and now with the help of the Triumph gallery it has arrived in Moscow. The next stop will be at the Islamic Art Museum in Sharjah (UAE).

Most of the works at the exhibition are devoted to the Arabic script. Saudi calligrapher Nasser Al Salem plays with the combination of letters “kaf” and “lam” in his work, Kul. The letters make the word “kull”, which means “everything”. The repeating pattern results as an effect of perspective, completing the meaning of the word. Lebanese graphic designer, a specialist in Arabic typography , Pascal Zoghbi along with the team from his studio in Beirut , have developed a new Arabic script . It can be used for newspapers and magazines, architecture and road signs, and software.
