Calligraphy trend

The art of beautiful writing is becoming more and more popular with the broad masses. While only a few years ago the word "calligraphy" was known mostly to artists and designers, today calligraphy is becoming a real fashion trend. In Russia surge in interest in this art was caused by, among other things, the launch of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy in 2008. Since then, broadcasts about calligraphy have repeatedly appeared on all federal and most cable and satellite TV channels.

Previously, some faint traces of calligraphy could only be found in culturological editions. Now, almost every event related to lettering arts is discussed in reputable business media. At the end of 2010 one Russian edition, a well known glossy magazine, published a big review article on calligraphy. On our part we’re proud that the author of the article mentions the website of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy as the largest Internet portal dedicated to lettering arts. Readers of these magazines are exactly the audience actively monitoring all changes in trends in order to conform to fashionable new products and trends, which, in its turn, increases the audience of our museum.

The National School of Calligraphy regularly receives requests for calligraphy lessons. Children and their parents are eager to grasp the basics of handwriting, despite the fact that every day there is a new high technology or computer that ease our life. While critics are stating the decline of handwriting era, calligraphy is completely breaking this myth, proving a growing interest for this art.

More and more people are choosing, as a gift, calligraphic paintings; businessmen and government officials make orders to the famous calligraphers to paint their houses or aircrafts. Around the world, everywhere, companies run calligraphy auctions. 2010 has broken a record for all business transactions related to calligraphy. Thus, in November, a copy of a Chinese calligraphic scroll by Wang Xizhi was sold at China Guardian auction for $ 46.4 million, and in June another original masterpiece by a Chinese calligrapher Huang Tingjjan was purchased for $ 65.8 million. Although these great masters worked a few centuries ago, the booming interest in calligraphic masterpieces, including modern ones, became evident only in the last couple of years. Thus, Sotheby's recently organized an exhibition and auction of contemporary calligraphy in Qatar. The event has brought together a large number of visitors and exhibitors from around the world. We mentioned this event on our website.

We look forward to more high-profile events in the world of beautiful handwriting, many of which will be held with the direct participation of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy.
