Calligraphy in the Novgorod Region

As is known, the Organizers’ Committee of the III International Exhibition of Calligraphy is headed by Sergey Mitin, Governor of the Novgorod Region.

As a part of the preparation process the team project of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy went to Borovichi. It is the second largest city of the region located 200 km away from Veliky Novgorod.

The travel target was to visit the Svyato-Duhov (the Holy Ghost) Monastery. The team was hosted by Father Valery, one of the most respectable priests of the Novgorod Region. He told about the Gornitsa Sunday School of Calligraphy at the Monastery where everyone can master calligraphy art.

Father Valery turned out to be familiar by hearsay with the International Exhibition of Calligraphy, and Pyotr Chobitko, President of the National Union of Calligraphers had even brought him the catalogues of the Moscow and St. Petersburg exhibitions. Alexey Shaburov, General Manager of the project touched upon the concepts of the III International Exhibition of Calligraphy which will be held in Veliky Novgorod on September 10-12, 2010 and presented the priest with a calendar of the From Earth to Universe photo project.

It is important that the Calligraphy School in Borovichi is attended by children and adults. The school was equipped with assistance of the local businessmen investing extensively in the reconstruction of the Svyato-Duhov (the Holy Ghost) Monastery and Gornitsa School.
