The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy will present a World Famous Mezuzah in honour of its 1st anniversary
The only Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, located in Moscow’s Sokolniki ECC, celebrates its 1st anniversary on Friday. In its honour the museum will present the World Famous Mezuzah, a renowned chef d’oeuvre of calligraphy, representative of the museum informed RIA Novosti.
“Currently, the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy collection has outstanding works by calligraphers from over the world. The collection is constantly growing with unique artworks.” The agency’s interlocutor said.
Among the exhibits, there is a handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, t he Israeli Declaration of Independence, Not a single day without a line — Calligraphy scroll, the Decalogue (the Ten Commandments) and many other masterpieces from all over the world.
Over the first year, the museum took part in the Day of Slavonic Literature and Culture and in the Sakura Festival of Japanese Culture, organized the Mystery of the World’s Calligraphy specified exposition, held a number of master-classes by famous calligraphers, the interlocutor said, “Russia’s first museum, dedicated to the art of beautiful handwriting, has achieved a lot, including membership in the International Council of Museums ICOM.” A representative of the museum noted.
A presentation of new exhibits is planned for the anniversary celebration. The World Famous Mezuzah, the only chef d’oeuvre of sacred Hebrew calligraphy listed in the Guinness Book of Records, will be the main surprise. Previously stored in a private collection in Jerusalem, the exhibit will be demonstrated to the audience for the first time.
A mezuzah is a sacred Jewish scroll of parchment.
The most widespread manuscript in the world with a long history of over 3000 years.
The World Famous Mezuzah is executed by a famous Israeli calligrapher Avraham Borshevsky.
The masterpiece has always been stored in a private collection in its homeland Jerusalem.
The artwork will be brought to Moscow from the Holy Land and for the first time ever the general public will have a chance to see it.
This sacred artifact was already recognized as a chef d’oeuvre of national calligraphy by the Israeli leading spiritual and academic authorities and has become the only work of contemporary calligraphy listed in the Guinness Book of Records. But until today in Russia this artefact has never been exhibited from Jerusalem. The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy will demonstrate the exhibit for the audience from August 14th to November 14th.
The ceremony in honor of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy’s 1st anniversary will attend the project’s partners: renowned calligraphers, representatives of the diplomatic corps, heads of cultural institutions, and press.
These works of the world’s calligraphy will be opened for the audience after the formal part of the event.
