“The Ink and the Pen. Calligraphy and Diplomacy” talk by Denis Paletsky
On September 21 at 11:00 AM Denis Paletsky gave a talk named “The Ink and the Pen. Calligraphy and Diplomacy” as a part of the “Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting” exhibition. Paletsky, a diplomat and interpreter, used to be instrumental in successful communication at key meetings of supreme leaders of Russia and China in the late 1990s – early 2000s.
The talk touched upon the connections between traditional Chinese calligraphy and the realities of foreign policy and modern diplomatic protocol, as well as the cultural means China employs to translate its “soft power” overseas. Paletsky also shared some true stories from his own experience, and ran a Q&A session in the end.
