Sokolniki will show chefs d’oeuvre of world calligraphy
On Thursday, the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy under Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre will witness the opening of the fourth International Exhibition of Calligraphy. For the first time ever Sokolniki Park visitors will have a unique opportunity to virtually visit all four parts of the world. Within the one and a half months of the Fixed Event Period, the exposition will be “recharged” several times, gradually moving the visitors from Europe to Asia, from West to East. The project’s exhibits feature calligraphy masterpieces from over 43 countries, some of them even listed in the Guinness World Records: calligraphic paintings, applied calligraphy items, writing utensils, truly unique stuff like the handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Decalogue, the Holy Mantra, the World Famous Mezuzah, the Calligraphy on a Wing of a Fly miniature, etc. The core of the exposition is comprised of the Sacred Calligraphy Collection items. Brand new exhibits from Russia, Spain, Germany, France, the UK, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, China, etc. will be showcased alongside older artwork. Furthermore, the exhibition guests will be able to participate in the world’s leading calligraphers' workshops and to listen to some nice musical pieces.
The International Exhibition of Calligraphy project was first subjected to Moscow’s public opinion in 2009 under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO, supported by the RF Ministry of Culture. The exhibition was also held in Saint-Petersburg and in Veliky Novgorod, becoming a big cultural event of the year. In 2010, the International Exhibition of Calligraphy was rated as one of the world’s top three exhibitions according to Exhibition News Awards. The project’s mission is to preserve the rare art of calligraphy for future generations.
The exposition will be available until December 15th, 2012.
