On December 28, 2018, the team of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy visited Nantong, Jiangsu province, and attended the opening of Gu Daming's, a renowned Chinese artist, museum.

A brief dedicated tour by Mr. Daming followed, where he spoke of his works and creative path. Alexey Shaburov in return invited the artist to take part in the Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting exhibition, scheduled for September 20-22, 2019, and agreed to meet with him in Beijing in January 2019 to agree upon all the details.

At the opening ceremony, Alexey Shaburov said that the Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting: One Belt — One Road exhibition is going to become one of the key cultural events designed to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and China. The organizing committee has already began the careful work of selecting the best samples of Chinese calligraphy and painting. Those that pass the screening and enter the exhibition will be put on display in Moscow in fall 2019. The Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting exhibition will become Moscow’s largest cultural event in 2019.

Alexey Shaburov, “The exhibition has already received official support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and other federal ministries and agencies. The project is backed by China’s leading calligraphy and art associations.”

This is why Mr Shaburov made a decision to contact China’s leading calligraphers and painters and invite them to participate in the project.

One of the participants, Gu Daming, a famous calligrapher and head of the Daming Yiyuan Art Park cultural project, noted that for the upcoming exhibition he had chosen his best pieces in order to show the Russian audience the enchanting beauty of the Celestial Empire. He hopes that his project will become a unique platform for cultural interaction for his home city of Nantong, Jiangsu province — one that will not only have positive effects on the artistic and cultural development of the region, but also help talented artists reveal themselves to the world.

Gu Daming, “We plan to invite famous calligraphers from all across China. I am myself from Tongzhou, a district of Nantong, and I am keen to contribute to the development of culture in my home city. The Daming Yiyuan Art Park was launched for this very reason, and I am excited to invite the best masters of China for cooperation and please art lovers and connoisseurs from my home district of Nantong.”
