Exhibition of Chinese calligraphy to be displayed in Moscow

Next year Moscow will see an exhibition of Chinese calligraphy and paintings to celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relationships between Russia and the People's Republic of China. The Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy presented the project.

Masterpieces by top artists from all Chinese provinces will be put on display in Russia for the first time ever. The event team plans for various calligraphy styles and techniques to be presented. The agenda also features workshops for both amateur and advanced artists – experts will talk about ink making, proper brush handling and strokes techniques. On top of calligraphy the exhibition will include Chinese paintings and unusual New Year cards from the Celestial Empire.

“It’s an uncommon and pleasant surprise for us,” says Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy. “They are the cards from Chinese comrades, dating back to 1949-1959, who sent them, written in Russian, to their comrades in the Soviet Union. In principle no such cards could be found in China after the cultural revolution, yet we have them in our collection.”

Selection of the best works will take several months. The exhibition will display some 300 artworks.
