Calligraphy by a Japan robot

A new invention helps young children to master the art of calligraphy. The innovation has been tested on the schoolchildren in Yokohama. The device consists of several motors and a mechanic hand with a brush. The mechanism duplicates the skills of 90 year old Dzhuo Sado, who does it perfectly, and taught the robot to paint a few kanji hieroglyphs.

Even a 10 year old child will be able to master the art: Nij Kurota, a student of a Yokohama school has learned to track each hieroglyph accurately, according to the laws of shodou — the Japanese calligraphy. This ancient art is disappearing in Japan, and the constructors of the robot are hoping that now they can revive it.

Students of the first school, where the robot was tested have learned to write the hieroglyphs «learn», «Sea» and «flower» in the classic style , all the words are written in italics, and the lines are connected. «When you take a brush, you have feeling that there is a master who holds your hand and guides», said Ayaaka Matsui, the assistant of professor Katsura, who shows children how the robot operates.

«The learning process is very tedious, it requires great skills, intuition and experience,» said Professor Katsura. «The robot accelerates the process and makes it more effective.»
