Unique Works by Vitaliy Shapovalov to be Presented at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy
On September 12th, 2014, the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy will witness the opening of the first one-man exhibition by unique calligraphy master and watercolourist Vitaliy Shapovalov. The exhibition features over one hundred significant calligraphy works the master has created over the last years, including huge series of works like: the Alphabet of Calligraphy Initials, thirty two well-executed, unique in its style, hand-drawn letters of the Russian alphabet; a series of works made in collaboration with Japanese calligrapher Yoshida Yoshiko, where the sophisticated writing traditions of the East and the West interweave; Creation of the World illustrating Bible stories from the Book of Genesis.
The exhibition also includes many original paintings based on the great literary works of Mikhail Bulgakov, James Joyce, Vladimir Nabokov, Alexander Pushkin, William Shakespeare, as well as portraits, genre scenes, still lifes and even iconographical works executed in Vitaliy Shapovalov’s unique style.
The exhibition will last until October 12th, 2014.
