Pavilion erection has begun at Yaroslav’s Court for the 3rd International Exhibition of Calligraphy scheduled for September 10–12, 2010.
Earlier the International Exhibition of Calligraphy was held in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Veliky Novgorod will be the final Russian city. The exhibition will then go to Paris, New York, Jerusalem, and Shanghai.
Visitors will get acquainted with the masterpieces of the world of calligraphy from more than forty countries. The exposition will include calligraphic paintings, writing utensils and materials, unique exhibits including those listed in the Guinness World Records. The basis of the Novgorod exposition is the Sacred Calligraphy Collection. Exhibits will be displayed in a 1400 sq. m. pavilion to be installed at Yaroslav’s Court.
The Business Program will be full of workshops conducted by famous calligraphers, concerts and national cuisine tasting. The Novgorod Museum-Reserve will unleash a thematic exposition timed to coincide with the main event, revealing the features of written language, the emergence of which is associated with Novgorod’s history. Beside this a wakeboarding tournament and a wake-surfing show with famous riders from Russia and Europe will take place on the Volkhov River during the exhibition. Wakeboarding can be compared with water-skiing with the athlete (rider) behind a boat on a special wakeboard performing stunts on the water. Such an event will be held in our city for the first time.
On the eve of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy on September 9th, Veliky Novgorod will see the project’s presentation and an exhibition of selected calligraphic works.
