Winners of the calligraphy contest awarded in Primorye

The Yat Russian calligraphy contest finished on June 5th, 2015 in Vladivostok with the opening of the exhibition of the works of contestants and the awarding ceremony. Representatives of the Far East branch of the Russian World fund that had supported the contest took part in the ceremony and presented the winners with valuable gifts, souvenirs and copies of the Russian World.ru magazine.

«When a person sees the true value of correct and fine writing he does not only get the aesthetic enjoyment but also deeply comprehends the words that are written down and feels the love for the „great and mighty“ Russian language. And Russian is the core of Russian civilization through which it preserves itself», says head of the Far East branch of the Russian World fund Alexandr Zubritsky.

The exhibition presents over 40 artworks of different genres — from designer script to perfectly written words. The authors of the works are children and young people from 6 to 21 years old. There is also a special category of contestants presented by children from orphanages and special schools.

The awarding ceremony was held on June 9th, 2015. The best works in the following three categories were presented: «A letter of the Old Cyrillic or Russian alphabet», «Favourite word in Russian» and «Favourite poem about The Great Patriotic War». An exceptional number of works were submitted for the latter category.

According to professionals, students of specialized schools and enthusiasts of this original art, the reasons for studying calligraphy are different for everyone. For some people the manual performance is a way to realize their artistic skills, develop artistic imagination and manual dexterity — a training wheel for future designers; and for some people it is also a sort of meditation.
