The Holy Scripture in Calligraphy contest aroused lively interest of the Moscow Patriarchy of the Russian Orthodox Church

Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and Pyotr Chobitko, President of the National Union of Calligraphers held a meeting with the Very Reverend Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, Chairman of the Holy Synod Department for Church and Public Relations in Danilov Monastery. At the meeting, the museum’s effort to study, preserve and multiply calligraphic traditions, as well as the recent successful events, the plans for the future were discussed.

Alexey Shaburov made a special emphasis on the programme of the Second International Exhibition of Calligraphy, which will be organized under the aegis of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO with support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation (Moscow, October 14th – November 14 th, 2009). The show will be organized by the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy in cooperation with the National Union of Calligraphers and assistance of Sokolniki MEC.

The Holy Scripture in Calligraphy open contest planned as a part of the Second International Exhibition of Calligraphy for calligraphers from many countries aroused particular interest of Very Reverend Vsevolod Chaplin. Besides, in 2010 the museum plans to hold a similar competition among children and teenagers during the Days of Slavic Script and Culture (May 2010).

Calligraphy is based on solid spiritual grounds, and plethoras of calligraphers abide by the classical canons of Orthodox art.

In the course of the meeting, the exhibition organizers got verbal assurances of the exhibition and calligraphic competition support from the managing staff of the Holy Synod Department for Church and Public Relations.

The meeting participants also discussed the possibility of partnership and cooperation of the two organizations concerning mental and moral upbringing of the younger generation.

At the end of the meeting, Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and General Manager of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy invited the Very Reverend Vsevolod Chaplin to visit the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and enjoy the display. The proposal was accepted with pleasure.
