London Gallery to Exhibit Tabrizi’s calligraphic paintings

London gallery is slated to mount an exhibition of various contemporary calligraphic paintings created by the Iranian honoured artist Sadeq Tabrizi.
For the first time in over twenty years, a collection of Tabrizi’s paintings will be brought together and showcased in London, IRNA (Islamic Republic News Agency) reports.
As one of the lead artists of his generation, Tabrizi has made a great contribution to both the creation and the analysis of modern art in Iran.
Tabrizi, also renowned as one of the masters of the Saqqakhaneh School, has taken Iranian folk art and literary traditions beyond their original context, producing a new art blend mixing Western and Persian artistic origins.
The term ‘Saqqakhaneh’ was first used to refer to a contemporary art movement in Iran established in 1962.
Saqqakhaneh was initially associated with the works of artists, both paintings and sculptures, which used already existing elements from Shia art in their own modern work.
Sadeq Tabrizi’s works have been displayed at many national and international galleries and exhibitions such as the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, Henan Museum in China, and many other public and private collections around the world.
Some 40 selected works of the artist will be on show in London from September 24 to October 5, 2012.
