An exhibition of ancient books is to open in the Orenburg history museum

The Ancient Books: History and Mystery of Their Creation exhibition will be opened in Orenburg Governor's Regional History Museum on April 21st at 5 p.m. It includes exhibits from the fund of bibliographic rarities of the museum’s collection: original manuscripts of the 16th—19th centuries and folios' facsimile editions of the 11th century executed at a high polygraphic level.

Residents and guests of Orenburg will also be able to observe monks’ writing utensils and to examine the peculiarities of ancient fonts. Visitors of the exhibition will have a chance to admire the books’ silver frameworks made by renowned jewellers and see the real Ostrog Bible, a great monument of Slavic Literature of the 16th century, belonging to one of the rarest and most famous editions of the universal importance.

One section is devoted to Jewish and Arab literature. It will showcase the authentic scrolls of the Hebrew Bible: some Torahs executed on parchment; a Qur'an of the 18th century, a manuscript written in perfect calligraphy and luxuriously decorated with gold.
