The world’s largest calligraphy exhibition in Moscow

Every day from 10.00 am to 08.00 pm through November 14th… Every Saturday and Sunday: master-classes for everyone!

The bulk of the exposition has unfolded in a unique two-storey mobile pavilion. The total exhibition area is a record-breaking five thousand square metres (Exhibit Halls 7a, 7, 17) featuring works by world-renowned masters of calligraphy from over thirty countries, such as: Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, USA, Japan, China, Iran, Palestine, Tunisia, Malaysia, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, Brazil, etc. The opening ceremony was attended by heads of the Moscow Patriarchate, the Mufti Council of Russia, the Chief Rabbinate of Russia; representatives of educational institutions, museums, cultural centres, embassies, ministries; as well as by art critics, collectors from around the world.

The first weekend of the Fixed Event Period witnessed master-classes from eminent contemporary calligraphers, such as: Barbara Calzolari (Pope Benedict XVI’s calligrapher), Massimo Polello (President of Turin calligraphers' guild Dal Segno alla Scrittura), Nja Mahdaoui (patriarch of the world calligraphy, a UNESCO artist), Pyotr Chobitko (President of the National Union of Calligraphy), Yadollah Kabali (a famous Iranian calligrapher), etc.

Within the framework of the exhibition a World Famous Mezuzah,a recent acquisition of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, the only chef d’oeuvre of sacred Hebrew calligraphy listed into the Guinness World Records, executed on parchment by Avraham Borshevsky, a famous calligrapher of Jerusalem, will strike awe into the spectators. Besides, the visitors will have a unique opportunity to see the draft of the illustrated handwritten copy of the National Anthem of the Russian Federation (a gift to Dmitry Medvedev from Silvio Berlusconi), the Decalogue, the Golden Koran, George Beckman’s sculpture, the one and only handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, the Holy Mantra, Calligraphy on a Wing of a Fly, a unique exhibit from Asia, etc.

Special attention should be paid to themed sections representing the writing cultures of various nations, states, and religions.
