The Main Federal Autumn Cultural Event

Cultural sensation: Original IX-XIV centuries birch-bark manuscripts in Moscow. Only on November 17 the citizens and guests of Moscow will have a unique opportunity to attend the one-day exhibition within the framework of the opening of the National School of Calligraphy!

This November a long-awaited event will take place in Moscow. The first National School of Calligraphy will be opened at Sokolniki Museum-Educational Complex.

On November 17, the opening ceremony will be held with the officials and federal medias attending. At the ceremony you will see summing-up the results of the world’s largest International Exhibition of Calligraphy, successfully held in Veliky Novgorod (September 10-12, 2010), presentation of the National School of Calligraphy and new exhibits of the museum (up to date masterpieces from 43 states are represented here).

Original IX-XIV centuries birch-bark manuscripts from the State Novgorod United Museum Reserve and the unique Four Gospels (1575) from the St. Sophia Cathedral will be displayed in Moscow for the first time.

November 17, 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm — opening ceremony for officials and the media

November 17, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm — an open-to-the-public one-day birch-barks exposition.

November 18, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm — the National school of calligraphy open day

Venue: the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy (pavilion 7), EcoCentre Sokolniki, Museum-Educational Complex, Sokolniki Park.

The school will be operating on a regular basis from November 18. Yuri Koverdyayev is to be the school’s Curator. He is a renowned Moscow calligrapher, member of the Union of Artists of Russia, famous for his International Exhibition of Calligraphy’s participation, experting in copperplate print calligraphic portraits and birch barks. In addition, Yuri Koverdyayev is a designer of securities.
