Moscow saw the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the art of calligraphy
Moscow might become the capital of the world’s calligraphy. On December 9th, on the occasion of the opening of Russia’s only Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy Moscow will see the unique Mystery of the World’s Calligraphy exhibition, a rare piece of conceptual blending, revealing the intricate harmony of music, light, and handmade lettering; the unity of Nature and human thought; the hidden powers of fire, water, and air will fuse with those of the spirit and the word.
Representatives of various calligraphy schools from twenty-six countries will overwhelm you with two hundred and fifty masterpieces including one hundred and thirty items of applied calligraphy from Europe, the Baltic States, the USA, Israel, China, Japan, Syria, Mongolia, the UAE, Turkey, Australia, India, Taiwan, Palestine, Jordan, Brazil, Peru, Armenia, and Iran.
The exhibition space is specially designed to envelop you into the concord of image and music, creative mood and exalted spirituality.
You will plunge into a different reality as soon as you pass the threshold. The exhibits on display attest to the overall diversity of the collection: spatial game of light, video performances on five screens, real fire and water, flower fantasies, calligraphic performance by German artists, exquisite items of applied calligraphy, ancient manuscripts, rarity letters, exclusive handwritten miniature books, writing utensils of the past and present, etc. All this will urge you to discover the hidden meaning of the ancient art of calligraphy.
The exhibition will be featuring the first and only handwritten copy of the Constitution of the Russian Federation to be premiered on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the adoption of the Fundamental Law of the Russian Federation. Special attention should be paid to a collection of thirty-five miniature constitutions including the rare edition of the 1921 USSR Constitution. You’ll enjoy a unique opportunity to watch inauguration ceremonies and read through the oaths of office of: Boris Yeltsin, Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Medvedev, John F. Kennedy, Theodore Roosevelt, etc.
The cultural and educational programme will take your breath away. The best artists will demonstrate their skill at a series of master-classes. Fascinating tours for parents and children alike will be launched every half hour. Moreover, the organizers have promised to shock people with more surprises than they can take.
We would like to remind you that the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy’s collection is based on the exhibits from the International Exhibition of Calligraphy that had been unleashed at the Repin State Academic Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture of St. Petersburg. The four days of the Fixed Event Period saw over seventeen thousand visitors. The opening ceremony scheduled for December 9th is expected to be attended by Andrei Busygin, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, high-ranking officials from the RF President’s Administration, the Moscow City Government, the RF State Duma, the Moscow City Duma, and ambassadors and attaches from embassies of various states in the Russian Federation.
The Mystery of the World’s Calligraphy exhibition will be available starting from December 10th, from 10.00 am to 7.00 pm at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, 1, Sokolnichesky val.
