Biography
Gemma grew up in Sydney Australia. In 1984 she met UK Calligrapher Donald Jackson and from that moment on realised that she should be a calligrapher and make lettering her lifetime profession. In 1986 and 1987 she studied with Gaynor Goffe through the Roehampton calligraphy course (postal from London.) In 1991 Gemma studied in the UK and Europe on her Winston Churchill Memorial Fellowship.
Gemma Black is a distinguished Australian calligrapher. Now Gemma lives and works in Tasmania. She is a Churchill Fellow and an Honoured Fellow of the prestigious Calligraphy and Lettering Arts Society, UK. For over 20 years Gemma has taught nationally and internationally. Her works hang in many private and public collections including the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK. The European Parliament and Parliament House Canberra.
