Japanese calligrapher will hold a free calligraphy class for the citizens of Chelyabinsk

Anyone who wants to, will have a chance to be a student of the Kabuki Modzi technique for free. Isidzima Kaori who is an authentic «calligraphy sensei» will hold a model lesson in the public library. Fans of the Land of the Rising Sun believe this will be a unique experience for Chelyabinsk.

«We must have a very definite picture of how many people are going to attend the event so that we can provide the necessary number of calligraphy kits», says the event organizer , Anton Solonitsyn.

«The kit consists of brushes, inkslabs, paper and special cloth which serves as a special underlay for the paper. Those who will attend the workshop will have an opportunity to learn the basics of the Japanese calligraphy, but I cannot yet reveal what will be the exact subjects of the lesson and which hieroglyphs Isidzima Kaori will teach for she will only present this information in her class.»

The organizers believe that such an event will allow a better understanding of our Far east neighbours, for despite the uneven relations between Russia and Japan our nations have a mutual interest in each other’s cultures.

The remarkable fact is that in Japan a person’s social position is defined not so much by a title (honoured, lead, or head) but by the recognition of his or her achievements by public or state organizations. For example, Isidzima Kaori is an acknowledged master of calligraphy as evidenced by the certificate of the Culture and Calligraphy Society.

Master Isidzima’s skills are also acknowledged by the Calligraphers Association of the Tokyo Chamber of Commerce and Industry; besides, she is a certified calligraphy instructor of the Distant Education Association.
