Calligraphy exhibit at The Gallery at the Casano Center in Roselle Park
«Poems That Touch the Heart,» a solo exhibit of calligraphy by Roselle Park resident Ed Beissel, will run through to Feb. 13th, at The Gallery in the Casano Community Center, 314 Chestnut St. Roselle Park. There will be a reception to meet the artist on Wednesday, Jan 28th, from 5-7 p.m. The Casano Community Center and the Art Gallery hours are Monday—Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday till 5 p.m.
The ancient art of calligraphy is alive and well at the hand of Ed Beissel. He has taken a selection of poems from A.L. Alexander’s book «Poems That Touch the Heart» and using pen and coloured ink delightfully rendered them on the page.
Ed has been doing calligraphy for more than 30 years. He started by lettering on china, personalizing baby cups, and items for anniversary remembrances. He moved on to poems on paper when his wife was in a nursing home. It was there that he did a poem in calligraphy for a fellow resident’s husband.
Ed also uses his calligraphy skills to produce poems for fundraising for the Friends of the Roselle Park Veterans Memorial Library.
The Casano Community Center is located in downtown Roselle Park and is a gathering place for the whole Roselle Park community with programmes for senior citizens during the day, and activities throughout the year for all ages. The mission of the Art Gallery is to give Roselle Park residents a venue to display their artistic works and connect with the community at large.
