Beijing Announced Results of The First Chinese Calligraphy By Firm Pen Competition

The results of the First Chinese Calligraphy By Firm Pen Competition were announced in Beijing on Tuesday. Thirty-six laureates have been selected from thousands of contestants from Russian-speaking countries and regions.

The awards ceremony was held in the building of the Directorate for the Publication and Distribution of Literature in Foreign Languages, which is one of the initiators of the event. The competition’s organizers are China Magazine / The China International Publishing Group (Zhongguo Qiche Huabao) / website: www.china.org.cn / China Information Internet Center / and the Confucius Institute at Moscow State Linguistic University.

Speaking at the ceremony, head of the Directorate for the Publication and Distribution of Literature in Foreign Languages Zhou Mingwei noted that the purpose of the contest is to «promote the interests of Russian-speaking readers of Chinese calligraphy, supporting exchanges between the lovers of Chinese calligraphy and spreading the culture of Chinese calligraphy».

Dmitry Mezentsev, General Secretary of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation is convinced that studying the calligraphy and culture of China and other countries is «the way to mutual enrichment and strengthening of friendship; one vision for a common future both in the region and in the world».

The competition was greatly supported by the fans of Chinese culture.
