Vologda museum reserve invites to calligraphy world of poetry and fairy tales

This week the artistic section of the Kremlin opens a new Katerina Palgunova’s exhibition “Zhivoe Pero” (The Live Pen), unlocking the world of poetry and fairy tales represented in calligraphy with over 50 artworks made by the Yaroslavl local artist. Monograms and elegant flourishes translate recognizable quotes by Ivan Turgenev and Boris Pasternak, Anna Akhmatova and Joseph Brodsky, Lewis Carroll and Astrid Lindgren, accompanying the lines from children’s books with airy images of its characters.

“Zhivoe Pero” will also touch upon Russian Vyaz through well-known proverbs to demonstrate the shapes this art is taking in the 21st century. Another section of the exhibition will focus on monograms or intricate initials.

“Everything you’ll see at the exhibition is live letters. They will be laughing or sad, levitating or sweeping down, running away or coming back, both cases and capitals, as they are willing to support the very emotions you experience!” Katerina Palgunova commented about her art.

The event will open on February 20 at 4:00 PM on S. Orlova street 15 in Vologda, to run until May 24.
