The Art of Islamic Calligraphy exhibition opened in Astana

Between February 14-28, 2019, the National Centre of Manuscripts and Rare Books of the Ministry of Culture and Sport in the Republic of Kazakhstan in cooperation with the Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) runs the exhibition named The Art of Islamic Calligraphy. The event has been organized by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

The exhibition serves as a communication platform for renowned professionals, specialist calligraphers and art experts of Kazakhstan and the Islamic world to discuss the issues associated with the art of Islamic calligraphy and the current status of the ongoing research, the development of cultural relations between research centres and well-known Kazakhstani calligraphy experts, and exchange of ideas to revive the traditions of calligraphy art in the Islamic world.

The exhibit of the Art of Islamic Calligraphy puts on display 27 artworks.

The official opening ceremony, which took place on February 14, featured numerous speakers, including the Director of the National Centre of Manuscripts and Rare Books of the Ministry of Culture and Sport in the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhandos Boldykov, General Director of IRCICA Dr. Halit Eren, representatives of international organizations and diplomatic facilities in Kazakhstan, famous public characters, scholars and writers, managers of museums, archives and libraries, local calligraphy artists and the student youth of Astana.
