State Duma received delegates of All-Chinese Sharp-pointed Nib Calligraphy Association

On December 14, Russian State Duma Deputy and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Education and Science Lyubov Dukhanina received a delegation from the Sharp-pointed Nib All-China Calligraphy Association. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the State Duma, which is the lower council of the Federal Assembly of Russia.

The meeting was attended by the Association Chairman Zhang Huaqing, Deputy Chairman Li Bin, Executive Director of the Association Xiong Jieying, Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy and author of The Great Chinese Calligraphy and Painting project Alexey Shaburov, Director Deputies Lyudmila Kulanina and Alexey Kharyutkin, and Assistant, Department of Chinese Philology in Saint-Petersburg State University, Liu Limei.

The conversation covered various aspects of educational and cultural domains, and on numerous occasions mentioned calligraphy as an important component of the youth development. It not only develops motor skills, but also trains the brain, forcing thinking and out-of-the-box problem solving.

Calligraphy is more than a writing art, it is an aspiration to imbue whatever is written, with beauty; an intent to appear at its best, and maybe even to an extent beyond the power of many. Calligraphy bears national shades too, noted Mrs. Dukhanina. At first it becomes a part of one’s national culture, and follows to form a part of the greater global culture. Therefore calligraphy can rightfully be named a means of communication, as we talk to each other and demonstrate the national identity, at the same time trying to see the identities of the other countries.

Concluding, Lyubov Dukhanina emphasized that education is a part of the general culture, and therefore it is vital to ensure experts, teachers and cultural workers exchange their experience they used to educate children. While it enriches both parties, it also serves as a bridge for their professional communication.

Today China and Russia are actively developing partnership programmes in various areas, including education, science and culture.

The parties expressed the hope for further development of joint projects and successful promotion of them internationally.
