Ѣ exhibition contest exhibited in Vladivostok
The contest has been held for four years in a row now, and the 2018 edition is timed to celebrate the 1155th anniversary of inventing Slavonic writing in Russia.
According to RIA VladNews, the opening ceremony, where winners of the regional Russian calligraphy contest were awarded, took place on May 25. The contest was organized by Primorye regional centre of folklore culture under the auspices of the Department of Culture of Primorsky Krai and Nevelsky Maritime State Institute.
The exhibit features original hand-made books and calligraphy sketches representing quotes or letters. A jury was tasked to pick the best works from over 80 submissions.
“This year the exhibition sees a plenty of commendable works”, says Irina Trusova, the Jury Chairman and Associate Professor of the Humanitarian Sciences Department in Nevelsky Maritime State Institute. “To pick the best ones, we drew upon the fact that this is a calligraphy contest, not painting, therefore the top places were awarded to the works with a masterly fashion in letters, rather than nice compositions”.
The contest saw students and school students from Primorsky Krai, South Korea, China, Japan, India and the Netherlands. Students from the children’s school of arts in Spassk-Dalny took the most prizes of all.
“The kids were so enthusiastic to find out about the contest”, says Galina Vlasyuk, the children’s school of arts teacher. “For instance, one of our students, Alina Uspenskaya, has come up with her own original script and a tale written with it”.
Ѣ exhibition admits for free every day in Pushkinskaya street 25, between 10 am and 6 pm and will run until May 30.
