Buddhism-themed calligraphy works on display in Tokyo

To mark the 40th anniversary of the signing of the China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship, a Buddhism-themed calligraphy exhibition opened at the China Cultural Center in Tokyo.

A total of 98 calligraphy works created by Buddhist artists from both China and Japan are on display.

Abbot Chengxin of Tiantong Temple in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, said at the event's opening, "Buddhism in China and Japan share the same root. For thousands of years, Buddhism in the two countries has kept alive the tradition of calligraphy." He said he believes the exhibition will help further promote exchanges of Buddhism as well as the calligraphy art between the two countries.

The event was attended by more than 80 Chinese and Japanese officials and calligraphy lovers.
