Australian guests visit Museum

Visitors from the other side of the world – calligraphy artist Jan Cahill from Melbourne, Australia, with her spouse visited the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy on Friday, May 19. Jan is a member of the Calligraphy Society of Victoria, who does and teaches calligraphy and also is a regular attendant of various calligraphy related events in various corners of the world.

It’s for several years running another representative of the same society, Janine Mitchell, is a permanent participant of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy project, which explains how the Moscow Museum of Calligraphy has come to be known in Australia. This was also the reason why Jan Cahill put the visit to our museum on her agenda when planning the trip to Russia.

Jan was delighted and spent quite some time to see the exhibit. She was also lucky to get on to a pointed nib workshop for children where she could not withhold her admiration towards the kids who have been practicing with the nib for the first time ever. Copperplate has always been her personal challenge, she said.

On top of the exhibit Jan was also excited to see a selection of copybooks and bought a copperplate set set to amaze her students with Cyrillic letters. She also decided she must bring a stunning edition of the Mysteries of the World Calligraphy catalogue to Melbourne too. At parting Jan promised to share with her society colleagues the details of her visit and the forthcoming 6th International Exhibition of Calligraphy that still offers anyone interested to join the list of participants.
