A Monument to the Soldiers of the Great Patriotic War opened in Orekhovo, Ryazan region

A renovated Monument to the Soldiers of the Great Patriotic War opened in the village of Orekhovo, Ryazan region, according to the Public Television of Russia. It has not been repaired for more than 30 years.

The exhibition The Immortal Regiment of Valaam is held near the memorial. It contains portraits of the Great Patriotic War veterans who were taken to the island. The exhibition is private.

The October’s Automuseum, Moscow, brought some military equipment. And for young visitors, there were items from the Iron Knights Museum, Kasimov district. Children lined up in a queue to try shooting.

Andrey Zykov, a resident of Gagarin: “I really liked the exhibition, it’s military, after all. We should remember, we should be proud of our ancestors.”

Igor Klimakov, a local resident: “The scale of today’s event is unexpected for us. It’s hard to believe that we can touch it, hear it, see it. This is what we lack in our lives right now. It’s not the Internet, after all.”

This memorial renovation was funded by Alexey Shaburov, Director of the Association of Private and People’s Museums. In the next two years, he plans to open a museum and educational complex in Orekhovo.
