Joint Russian-Chinese motocross “The Road of Friendship” closes off
Yesterday afternoon Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre held the closing ceremony for a joint Russian-Chinese motocross named “The Road of Friendship.” Deputy Head of the Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party Wang Xiaohui, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to China Andrey Denisov, Deputy of the Russian State Duma, and Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Education and Science Lyubov Dukhanina met with 40 motorcyclists from Russia and China, who covered the total of over 9000 kilometres, and presented them awards.
Wang Xiaohui emphasized in his speech that the joint motocross completed by the riders from two countries to celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relationship between Russia and China, is a testament of strong friendship between the two peoples. The motocrossers caring for each other and nurturing friendship on their way engaged many other motorcycle clubs to join the motocross and support the project, which is a great example of practical public diplomacy. The outstanding bravery and cooperation spirits demonstrated by the racers, greatly illustrates the mutual help and support that the peoples of our countries have been providing to each other for many years.
The Ambassador of the Russian Federation to China Andrey Denisov who attended both opening and closing ceremonies, stressed that the racers kept on moving forward, overcoming various challenges, and planted the seeds of friendship in each waypoint of their route, which is a valuable gift to celebrate the 70th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relationship between Russia and China. Prior to the motocross he also demonstrated a calligraphy artwork made by a Chinese artist, named “The Iron Horse and the Strong Wind.” Lyubov Dukhanina believes that this motocross is a classic example of uniting culture and sport. The racers travelling this long path side by side is sport on the one hand, but a genuine cultural exchange on the other hand.
The motocross was one of the events for the President Vladimir Putin to attend in 2019 in China. The racers started their way on April 27 from the Russian embassy in Beijing, China. Having crossed Beijing, Manchuria, Zabaikalsk, Ulan-Ude, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Novosibirsk, Chelyabinsk and Kazan, they completed the total route of over 9000 kilometres, reaching their destination – Moscow – yesterday. En route they visited the burial sites of the Red Army soldiers in Manchuria, collected donations for an orphanage in Ufa, saw the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 monuments, and much more. Yuri, the originator of the project, said that the motorcyclists from Russia and China reached their destination through strong will and steadfast faith, uniting and helping each other. The racers were adopting and spreading the friendship between the peoples of the two countries, “this feeling came to us from our fathers, and we are going to pass it on to our children for the friendship to be passed down for generations.”
The event is organized by the press office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, the embassy of China to Russia, the embassy of Russia to China, Russian motorcycle club RISK, Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre, Chinese Communications Centre “Five Continents,” and Shanghai International Exhibition EXPO.
