Rytmy exhibition by Natalia Lozovaya and Sergey Lozovoy

Between February 9th and 25th Sterkh Gallery of Contemporary Art will hold Rytmy (Rhythms) – an exhibition by Natalia Lozovaya and Sergey Lozovoy. The two artists, designers and teachers of social and artistic studies in Surgut State Teachers University will present around 40 calligraphy, lettering (“painting with letters”) and graphic art pieces. The exhibition is focused on dance and improvisation expressed through gestures, signs and metaphorical images. Similar to Oriental calligraphy, such a technique requires both artist and spectator to be free, concentrated and retreated.

The artists feel that calligraphy wins back its relevance, and perhaps they argue with graffiti, combining forms and writing based on their extensive designing experience. The event provokes to reflect on the eternal relationship between the artistic mission and technology, art and design.

Natalia and Sergey mostly work with graphic design, book illustration and easel graphic works, actively participating in exhibition projects in the region, in Russia, Poland and Montenegro. The couple also won numerous awards of international competitions and festivals of contemporary art (“A Sphere in the Art, Architecture and Life”, “Graphic Design – the 21st century”).

Sergey Lozovoy – a member of the Union of Artists of Russia and the Union of Designers of Russia, an honoured cultural luminary of Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous District and Yugra, Professor of Social and Artistic Studies, Surgut State Teachers University.
