Japanese Calligraphy workshop

On April 29 at 16:00 the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy will hold a Japanese calligraphy workshop led by recognized experts Sashida Takefusa, Hirose Seko and Sauri Ishimaru.

Contemporary Japanese calligraphy keeps up a centuries-old tradition as a foundation for creating and developing new schools. In artworks by Japanese artists a calligraphic character acquires its own shape with vibrant emotional context, where the external energy, or stroke intensity, plays a key part. Japanese characters, well known since the 2nd century BC, combine artistic aesthetics, harmony and philosophical content. It stands to mention that perception of calligraphy requires a certain level of intellectual and spiritual culture, therefore the meetings where everyone can discover traditional Japanese culture and language through calligraphy, are so important.

The workshop participants will take part in the Japanese calligraphy performance to find out the meaning and power of the characters, and expose themselves to the ancient art of ikebana. Under the expert supervision they will also carve custom engraved seals.

We look forward to seeing you all in the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy on April 29, 2017, at 16:00 to join the Japanese Calligraphy workshop.
