Antique books and prints restoration school launches in Moscow

The antique books and prints restoration school organized by the Academy of Litfond Auction House will open its doors in September 2017 to offer two courses for amateurs and professionals of book restoration practice. One of the above will provide essential theoretical and practical knowledge about book restoration and binding based on Vatican workshops' methods. Another unique course will teach the basics of Old Slavonic calligraphy and practical graphology of 18th-19th centuries.

Practical sessions will take place in operational Litfond restoration workshops. Intensive classes running for about 60 academic hours will tell about the basic principles of museum restoration of paper and bindings, and practical knowledge of book binding and decoration.

Those who complete the calligraphy course will learn to read and write Old Slavonic texts in Uncial, Half-Uncial, Vyaz and Cursive, as well as about the Russian handwriting tradition of the 18th-19th centuries.

Final projects will form an exhibition after the courses, and Litfond restoration workshops may invite top students to be employed.
