A world-renowned masterpiece of sacred lettering to beautify the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy
Mr. Alexey Shaburov, General Manager of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy came back from the Promised Land and brought some good news: a unique artifact will contribute to the museum’s collection. The rare art piece is the World Famous Mezuzah created by a famous Hebrew calligrapher Avraham Borshevsky.
The biggest mezuzah was recognized a national chef-d’oeuvre by spiritual authorities and leading academicians of Israel. It is the only contemporary calligraphic work of art registered in the Guinness World Records.
The sacred work of art from Jerusalem has never been shown in Russia before. The World Famous Mezuzah will be officially presented to the public at the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy anniversary celebration ceremony. Special guests of the ceremony are renowned politicians, diplomats, heads of cultural institutions, officials from the Cultural Centre of Israel in Moscow, famous calligraphers, and journalists. The event will be held on August 14, 2009.
The World Famous Mezuzah and all the other calligraphy masterpieces will drop their wraps from October 14th to November 14th, 2009 at the world’s largest calligraphy exhibition held in Moscow. The masterpieces will be brought to you by famous calligraphers from more than 30 countries – Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Israel, USA, Japan, Jordan, China, France, Italy, Germany, Australia, Brazil, etc.).

A mezuzah is a small case in which a small hand written scroll of parchment (called a klaf) is placed. The scroll contains the words of the "Shema Israel" (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) passage, in which God commands the Jews to keep His words constantly in their minds and in their hearts. The scroll also contains another passage (Deuteronomy 11:13). The passages are written in Hebrew, and contain 22 lines of 713 painstakingly written letters. The meaning of the Hebrew word “mezuzah” is simply "a doorpost". The meaning of the words "Shema Israel" is "Hear Israel". Every respectable Jewish household is equipped with such a charm, its location being on the right side of the entrance doorway.
Thus, the mezuzah is the most worldwide spread three-thousand year old manuscript.
