The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed Introduces the Origins of Russian Literature to Children

It has been a few years since Pokrovsky Cathedral (The Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed) has given educational sessions to kids and their parents on weekends. The cathedral tour is dedicated to the history of this medieval monument, where sightseers literally take the information about it from the inscriptions on icons and wall paintings.

The second part of the session invites everyone to the scribe in order to learn the basics of old Russian literature. Besides the learning part, they also try to write the way Muscovites wrote nearly four centuries ago.

Classes on the history of writing are held by the professional graphic artist Vyacheslav Beloglazov. Since the number of those wishing to master the art of calligraphy keeps on growing each time, Vyacheslav decided to open his own studio. Now everyone can get to know different types of writing and calligraphy techniques in the Cell art studio. Moreover, Vyacheslav gives classes on writing in schools upon an invitation from teachers and parents.

— «Talking about lessons for children held within school hours in particular and together with Russian language, literature and history lessons can help children to develop respect for the written word, interest in book art, the ability to judge the significance of documentary historical sources in the right way,» Vyacheslav says "This is an introduction to the history of letters, language and words. Besides, working with calligraphic tools allows us to develop such qualities as punctuality, attentiveness, precision in controlling fine motor skills, which is directly related to the overall development of a person. Of course, all of this cannot be achieved after just one session. Anyway , our position is that if one lesson can affect a person, this interest might have a greater chance to be developed further.

We, in turn, are ready to assist this in every possible way! At the same time, one session already introduces a very interesting part of the history of writing. As for adults, the benefits from these sessions are simply enormous. Our sessions miraculously bring together totally different people: some take it as a history class and the opportunity to develop their knowledge; designers consider it a combination of beauty and harmony, the possibility to improve their skills without technical tools; for the rest it is simply a creative process.
