Spiting the printer’s ink

Russia’s first museum of calligraphy will open in Moscow.

According to the National Union of Calligraphers, the museum will be located at Sokolniki Recreation and Entertainment Park.

The opening of a museum of the art of beautiful handwriting in Russia (similar institutions are established in Turkey, China, Japan, and the UAE) is the threshold of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy in St Petersburg scheduled for September 16-21, 2008.

The displayed exhibits include fine specimen of Slavonic and European lettering, Russian and foreign books on calligraphy, limited editions of rare manuscripts, writing utensils of the past and present, elegant Hebrew calligraphy pieces.

The core of the exposition is formed by eighty well-designed calligraphic works of art from the visual artists of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany, France, Israel, Syria, USA, Japan, China, etc. They all are live-action pieces of art, which have accumulated the lettering traditions and skill of many generations.

Besides, the visitors of the museum will be able to see the works of the distinguished masters’ apprentices, those who are now breaking the ground of calligraphy.
