Governor of the Novgorod Region Has Taken Part in the Grand Opening of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy

Today Sergei Mitin, Governor of the Novgorod Region attended the Grand Opening of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy to be held in Veliky Novgorod from September 10–12. It is the world's largest project on the art of beautiful handwriting and its culture.

As was reported by the press service of regional authorities, the project has been carried out under the auspices of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO since 2009. Its top organization level was marked by the UFI (The Global Association of Exhibition Industry).

“Today we witness a wonderful event. We are attending the presentation of a high-level intellectual product created by a large group of gifted artists, art historians and specialists in the sphere of culture, displaying the art of calligraphy here, in our city. It is symbolic that it is happening in September as September is a remarkable time for our city. On September 21st, 1862, the Millennium of Russia monument was erected in Veliky Novgorod. On September 19th, 2009, we celebrated the 1150th Anniversary of our beloved city,” Sergei Mitin said at the Grand Opening. The head of the region also noted that the venue for the exhibition was not chosen by chance. Veliky Novgorod is the keeper of thousands of years of Russian culture and is the ancient Orthodox center. Mr. Mitin also thanked the organizers of the exhibition: the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy, the National Union of Calligraphers and MVK, the International Exhibition Company for the decision to hold this exhibition in Novgorod.

Visitors of the 3rd International Exhibition of Calligraphy will be introduced to calligraphic paintings, pieces of applied calligraphy, writing materials and utensils. Among the exhibits are the world-famous masterpieces: a Golden Koran, the Sacred Mantra, a World Famous Mezuzah, etc. with the Sacred Calligraphy collection as exposition core. A rich cultural and entertainment program is to be organized for guests with master classes by renowned calligraphers representing the national art of various countries; holiday concerts; the World Cuisines project and the Museum Night project (September 11th), as well as wake-boarding and wake-surfing show on the Volkhov River featuring the best athletes from Russia, Europe, and Asia.
