The opening ceremony
At the beginning of the ceremony cellist Mstislav Rostropovich’s student Denis Shapovalov played Bach.

The opening ceremony was attended by many famous calligraphers. Evgeny Dobrovinsky, Petr Chobitko, Yuriy Koverdyaev, Nazip Ismagilov, Andrea and Volker Thomas Wunderlich came purposely to the exhibition. The Israeli calligraphy was represented by Avraham-Hersh Borshevsky. And Indian calligrapher Manohar Desai is worth mentioning here again. It is not yet a full list of famous and talented masters who kindly visited the event.
Besides, among the guests of the ceremony were diplomats of Israel, Jordan, Iran, Mongolia, Palestine, Peru, Japan and journalists.

The widespread interest in exhibition on the part of specialists and public as well, official support by Russian Ministry of Culture stressed the international scope of this event and its national significance.
The exhibition featured the works of more then 70 well-known calligraphers from Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, Europe, the Baltic states, the USA, Israel, China, Japan, Syria, Mongolia, the UAE, Turkey, India, Taiwan, Australia, Palestine, Jordan, Brazil, Peru, Armenia and Iran.

The large museum exposition included historic specimen of manuscripts of different ages, utensils for writing and lettering and specialized library. The applied calligraphy was represented by embroidery, calligraphic engravings on household items.

The speciality of all the projects within the frame of International exhibition of Calligraphy is great number of master-classes of the foremost calligraphers and educational lectures and workshops for children and adults.

As well there were introduced the first handwritten Constitution of the Russian Federation. The exposition of the Project “Mystery of the World Calligraphy” included 35 miniature Constitutions (USSR, Russian Federation, CSI, Asia and Europe). Additionally there were presented the text of swear and speech at the inauguration ceremony of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
A milestone in grand project International exhibition of Calligraphy was erected on December, 14, 2008. A bit sadly to come into thinned out halls overcrowded just yesterday. But project organizers have already promulgated future plans including new exhibitions, festivals and many other things.
